The Founder

The Founder

Hi— I’m Naomi Veak. I spent most of my adult life alternating between wanting to fit in by drinking and smoking pot, and feeling isolated and ashamed because I didn’t want anyone to know I felt out of control, and out of alignment with my true self.

I told myself I was healthy because I drank red wine, and weed was the way I relaxed. Besides— I was excelling in my career, exercised regularly, and ate organic vegetables. So why did things seem off?

What I know now is that back in my early 20s, when I’d begun using weed and alcohol to numb grief and depression, I’d developed a problem that became my identity.

My Shift to Sobriety

In my 40s, after several years of aborted attempts to quit first one thing and then the other, I’d finally had enough. I committed to one full year sober “just as an experiment” and did everything I could think of to create new neural pathways and motivation, including new morning and evening rituals, nervous system support, positive psychology techniques, accountability, tapping (EFT), changing my environment, being of service, exercise in nature, meditation and journaling… many practices that I continue to this day. My sobriety date is in May 2018. A few months in, while doing a values exercise, I had a tingling full-body knowing that what I wanted was a purpose-driven life, which meant I would never drink or smoke weed again. Living according to my values is also why I started this community in December 2019, and have since then dedicated my personal and professional development to becoming the leader this community deserves.
