Frequently Asked Questions About the Community Membership

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to email Naomi at naomi@mysobergirlfriends.com!

  • After your first 30 days sober, if you are walking your sober path and want to be supported and inspired by a community doing the same, we’d love to have you join us.

The thing that bonds us together is the courage we have to live a clear-minded life in this society that tells us to numb our feelings. We are human, and sobriety is a journey.

The first 30 days of living without alcohol and substances is a delicate time as there is a lot going on with your beautiful brain. If you are looking for support in getting through the first month, this could be the perfect time for a recovery group like SMART Recovery, This Naked Mind, Recovery Dharma, or even a sobriety coach. (Yes, there is such a thing!)

  • We use the term“woman” to apply to anyone who identifies as a woman (or woman/nonbinary), regardless of gender assigned at birth.

  • We absolutely welcome women who are in early sobriety!

If you are in early sobriety and your main need for community is to be able to dive into your past, I recommend joining a recovery group or seeing a therapist as an additional resource. We do not provide resources specific to substance use, but are here for social health.

We are a great addition to a sobriety toolbox.

  • First, know that whatever you choose to do with your life is okay.

However, the founder had addictive behavior patterns with marijuana for over 20 years. It took about two years for her to feel like the residual effects finally left her brain. While we support the concept of harm reduction strategies, at this time we aren’t what you might call “weed-friendly”. Our shared value is for being together fully present.

  • We are a social health community. Women join the community specifically because they want to connect with other sober women and want to learn and practice authentic connection. As sober women, sobriety comes up naturally in conversation all the time! All events are carefully designed for self-awareness, understanding of others, and just enjoying life sober!

  • We’re a small, local community that offers monthly in-person social connection. Our events are held in different places around the Portland area.

Members also create and offer events, and can invite others to socialize anytime.

We have an online off-Facebook membership site where we can connect, create and share events.

  • Our community is made up of women who are no longer able to tolerate the feeling of being out of alignment with their true potential. Alcohol and other drugs made them feel disconnected from their true selves.

Members are looking for a community of sober, growth-oriented women for support and inspiration.

You might meet a scientist, writer, realtor, principal, yoga therapist, graduate student, marketing professional, artist, and more.

For enjoyment, they: screen print, do needlepoint, garden, train dogs, roller skate, ride bikes, lift weights, sing, go hiking, run, read, write books, cook, meditate, dance, do yoga, make collages, volunteer…. sobriety is full of opportunities!

  • At this time, the majority of our events are in-person, in the Portland area. You are welcome to stay connected to us through the email list, though, because we sometimes offer online opportunities, and may be offering some retreats here in Portland, and on the Oregon coast! Wouldn’t that be cool?

  • My Sober Girlfriends is a heart-centered business run by the founder, Naomi Veak. She prices the membership as low as possible so she still gets compensated for her work creating and maintaining this one-of-a-kind community!

  • There is at least one in-person monthly activity included that is organized by Naomi. Members can offer any kind of activity they’d like, which could be an event with an outside ticket cost. Some oppportunities like workshops or retreats are offered for a fee.

  • It is currently $35/month, or $350 for the year.

Whatever price you join at, your price will never go up even when the rate is raised for new members.

  • Besides the non-tangible, which is being able to see other amazing local women who have chosen sobriety, which is reinforcement of your choice… in our online community Naomi shares a weekly live coaching message, and there is a shared online space (not Facebook) to share milestones and successes, ask questions, share/request resources, and generally stay in the know for Portland area sober-related events, activities, and news!
